Hypnotherapy induces a deep state of relaxation – or hypnosis – that allows the subconscious mind to be influenced. The subconscious mind is like your internal autopilot, often causing you to behave in a certain way automatically. The conscious mind can only store a small amount of information whereas the subconscious stores all our memories and experiences, which, over time have formed who we are, how we behave and how we react
By being hypnotised, you allow the subconscious mind to be influenced which allows changes to behaviour.
No-one can be hypnotised without their permission. You are in control all the time; you always know what is happening, and you can come out of the state of hypnosis at any time if you want to. However, the change or healing you are being hypnotised for can only happen if it is something you desire and are fully committed to.

A Typical Hypnotherapy Session
During a hypnotherapy session with Clare Downham, you will talk in depth about the goal you wish to address and provide detailed information about how you view the issues surrounding it, and what affects how you behave. You will then be encouraged to relax deeply before information gathered is used to re-programme your subconscious thinking. In this way, each session is designed for you, based on your way of thinking and is therefore very effective. Sessions last for an hour, and you will be brought back to full consciousness at the end, with a new strength to heal or effect change.
